Why I Want To Be A Captain

KWhile supervising cargo ops on a Matson container ship in the Port of Honolulu this evening, I needed to run up to the navigation bridge to read some weather data and silence some alarms. I walked by the chart table and came across this wonderful essay, which according to the editor's note was written by a 10 year old. It makes me smile every time I read it!

  1. Could not resist sharing this on the Great Lakes Maritime Academy Facebook.......and the jokes are starting to roll in. Too funny. No wonder the Deck program is so popular! Hope all is well.

  2. A shipmate of mine posted it on the USS Glover FF 1098 Facebook page. I love how kids think. I also enjoyed that you are in Traverse City. I graduated from TCHS in 1978. Then I left for the Navy.

  3. And I only remember Ericsson 8' dinghy that we rowed around Marsters dock in the "Olden Days". Oh yes, we also snagged mackerel with treble hooks.
