Part 2, Day 76: Soo Locks

Day 76: A beautiful day in Sault Ste. Marie and the first morning where it was warm enough to leave the jacket inside! Here's a view from inside the locks looking downriver.

Today's #greatlakesfact: Built in 1837, the Soo Locks make it possible for 86 million tons of cargo to transit over 5,000 voyages per year on vessels from Lake Superior to the lower lakes Huron and Michigan.

  1. Michigan became a state in 1837, however, the first Soo Lock was not established until 1855.
